  • 1. Are all deceased automatically removed from the voters’ register?

    No. If someone dies overseas and / or their name does not appear in the list of deceased received from the Department of Immigration & Civil Status they will not be removed from the voters’ register.

  • 2. How are deceased persons managed on the Voters Register?

    A list of deceased in Seychelles is received from the Department of Immigration and Civil Status monthly and all other applications of deceased are compiled and all deceased removed from the register upon yearly certification of the register on 31st March the following year immediately after death or certification of register before elections.

  • 3. After somebody has died when will their name no longer appear on the voters’ register?

    Upon certification of the next voters’ register for upcoming elections or upon yearly certification of the voters’ register on 31st March of the following year immediately after their death.

  • 4. Do I have to visit a registration centre to check if I am on the voters’ register?

    There are several ways to check your name on the register. You can SMS your NIN to 9600 (no spaces) or visit www.ecs.sc or visit the registration centre nearest to your electoral area.

  • 5. What do I need to verify my name on the voters’ register?

    You need your NIN for the online and SMS checks and your ID card if you are checking at a registration centre.

  • 1. Can I register to vote online?

    No, online registration is currently not permitted by law in Seychelles

  • 2. Will my name automatically appear on the voters’ register immediately after I register?

    No. Your name will only appear on the voters’ register upon the next certification before the elections or at the annual certification on 31st March the following year

  • 3. What is the criteria to register as a voter?

    To register as a voter you need to

    • Be citizen of Seychelles
    • Be 18 years or more
    • Have resided for three months or more in an electoral area (district)
    • Have not been declared of unsound mind
    • Not be serving a sentence of imprisonment of or exceeding six months as imposed by a court of Seychelles
  • 4. What do I need to bring to register as a voter?

    To register as a voter you need to bring the following:

    • Valid photo Seychelles ID card
    • Valid passport in the case of returning residents to confirm the last date of entry into the country
    • A copy of naturalization certificate and a valid passport to confirm the last date of entry into the country
  • 5. How will you ensure that my address is correct?

    After registration, an ECS officer will visit you at the residential address provided by you when you registered. The visit is to verify and confirm that you live at this residence. It is your duty to ensure that you are present at the time of visit.

  • 6. When I submit my application will it automatically be approved?

    No. Your application will only be approved once all the details have been confirmed by an ECS officer.

  • 7. How do I prove that I have applied to be on the voters’ register?

    Upon submission of your application at the ECS, you will be issued with a copy of your application. This will stand as proof that you have applied to be register as a voter.

  • 8. When will I know the outcome of my application?

    Once your application has gone through the whole registration process (including verification & publication) you will be informed of the outcome through an official correspondence from the ECS. 

  • Corrections
  • 1. What details can I change on the voters’ register?

    You can change your name(s), surname, NIN or date of birth

  • 2. What documents do I need to bring to make corrections on the register?

    You need the following documents to make any corrections to the voters register:

    • A valid photo Seychelles ID card
    • A copy of certificate in case of marriage / divorce
    • A copy of birth certificate for any changes and corrections to be made other than marriage / divorce
  • 3. How long after I have made the correction will this appear on the register?

    The corrections made will appear on the voters’ register upon certification before any upcoming elections or on the register certified annually on 31st March of the following year.

  • Transfer
  • 1. How long after I have changed residential district(s) will I be allowed to transfer to a new electoral area?

    You need to have resided in your new electoral area (district) for at least 3 months before you can transfer to that electoral area.

  • 2. What do I need to bring with me if I am transferring to a new district?

    Your valid photo Seychelles ID card

  • 3. How long after I have asked for the transfer will my name appear on my new electoral area’s voters’ register?

    Your name will appear on your new electoral area’s voters’ register upon certification of the register right before an election or at the annual certification of the voters’ register on 31st March of the following year.

  • 5. Upon placement of an objection is this automatically approved?

    Objections are treated on a case by case basis and it is upon investigation and at the discretion of the ECS to approve the objection.

  • Objections
  • 1. What are the different types of objections that can be placed?

    The different types of objections are:

    • Appearing on the voters’ register of an electoral area in which you are not living
    • Appearing on the voters’ register when you are not qualified as a voter
    • Any deceased whose particulars still appear on the voters’ register
    • Against your own name
  • 2. What do I need to bring to place on objection?

    To place an objection you need a valid photo ID card and / or death certificate in the event of an objection to remove the name of the voter who has died overseas.

  • 3. Will I be informed if an objection has been placed against me?

    Yes. It is our duty to ensure that you are aware of any objection so that you may provide necessary additional information required to close the objection.

  • 4. Who will be informed of the outcome?

    Both the complainant and the respondent are informed of the outcome of the objection investigation.

  • 5. Can anyone place an objection in any electoral area?

    The person placing the objection must be registered in the same electoral area as the person against whom the objection is being lodged.

  • 6. How long after I make the objection will it appear on the voters’ register?

    Once approved, the objections will appear on the voters’ register upon certification right before an election or upon the annual certification on March 31st the following year.
